Ed Fanuzzi is an expert on the history and lore of New York City’s waterways, above and below. We spent a few years in conversation, with Ed regaling me for hours in oral history interviews spanning decades and continents, above and underwater. He gave permission to photographer Nura Qureshi to take portraits of some of the objects in his collection, for inclusion in an installation at Underwater New York’s 5-year anniversary party, custom Viewmasters featuring slides of Ed’s objects.

In 2015, I supported Oral History Master of Arts student Maggie Agiro in a fieldwork project interviewing Ed, for which she created an online and in-person exhibit of audio, objects and ephemera. Her work with Ed, entitled Scrap Dive, can be found on Underwater New York here.
